auto-size

  • Hi all,

I've noticed that many websites, this one included, adjust their dimensions depending on your resolution, and how large the window displaying the site is. If you resize, formats such as centering, stay centered. If I take this window, and change its dimensions, you can watch the centered text readjust itself to fit in the center of the window.

Does anyone know how do this?

    Thanks!

  • Sure, Cort. Took me a while too. You know who taught me? The chick that owns www.ClassyThemes.com

    :)

  • Thanks Dreamboat,

That's perfect! I've always defined my column width explicitly (ie 640 pixels), and now I see the benefit of using ratios.

    Thanks again,
    Corticus

  • I do it in Tables in FrontPage, Cort.

    Basically:

    1. Insert a table.
    2. Create its columns.
    3. Sure that's what you want?
    4. Make the table width 100%
    5. Make sure the width of the cells that make up the whole table total 100%.

So, for instance, www.theofficeexperts.com has (guessing numbers, I forget) a two-column table. The table width is 100% and the first column width is 40% and the second is 60%.

    :)

    This one http://www.quick-manage.com

    probably has columns: 10%, 5%, 70%, 5%, and 10%...
and that bar at the top is just a row of merged cells....

  • But Tables should not be used for main layouts really they should only be used for displaying tabular data. Your layout should be done using divs and CSS.
