Hi! I am a computer science major and am thinking of applying for an MBA to change careers and aim for the big bucks. I have pretty good scores/gpa etc and hence would probably get an admission. However, about 5 years back while I was a stupid guy recently out of college, I ended up getting charged for performing some lewd acts in public while partying with some of my drunken crazy pals during a weekend. This was a misdemeanor offense and the charge was subsequently sealed (not expunged) by the judge since this was my only brush with the law. Even though the record is sealed from private employers and companies, it would still be accessible by many government and licensing/regulatory agencies. Now my concern is whether this record will pose problems in my post-MBA career. I realize that a career in financing is out, with its extensive checks and regulations. However, what other post-MBA careers are still open? I have successfully passed background checks with various employers since the record sealing and have changed jobs. I just don't want to invest in an MBA if this thing is going to give me problems in getting a career change/advancement after graduation. Do fields like consulting have a similar system of checks and licenses?
If it has been sealed, they are not allowed to access the records unless they have had your prior knowledge and also the knowledge of the solicitor general, and other parties like this. They cannot just open it and look through it, they need to have prior approval and also from you as well.
